Born in Tbilisi, Georgia , the piano duo Natia and Tamar Beraia received their musical inspiration and first piano lessons from their mother at the age of five and have been playing together ever since. Soon after, they entered Z. Paliashvili Central Music School in Tbilisi in the class of Dodo Tsintsadze.
Their first success came at the International Piano Duo Competition “Sister and Brother” in St. Petersburg (Russia 1997), where they took first prize and three special award.That same year Natia and Tamar became finalists of the International TV Festival “Bravo-Bravissimo” in Cremona (Italy).
In 2000, sisters received diploma of the International Chamber Music Competition “New Names” in Moscow (Russia) and the scholarship awarded by the M. Tariverdiev Foundation.
Natia and Tamar have performed with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester in Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam conducted by V. Machavariani and with E. Mikeladze Georgian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Heribert Beissel.
In 2007, Natia and Tamar were invited by the Georgian pianist Eteri Andjaparidze to Chicago (USA), where they appeared in different venues both as soloists and as a piano duo. The next step in their professional path was Tbilisi V. Sarajishvili State Conservatoire where both Natia and Tamar enrolled in the class of Prof. Nana Khubutia (2003-2009) and graduated with Master of Solo Performance.
The Beraia sisters have performed recitals in Paris (Salle Cortot), Leverkusen (Erholungshaus, invitation by Bayer Kultur), Murcia (Victor Villegas Auditorium), Wiesbaden (Kurhaus), Nürnberg, Erlangen, Marktoberdorf (Bayerische Musikakademie, invitation by acclaimed Canadian pianist Janina Fialkowska), Tbilisi, Odessa and Lviv (Philharmonic hall),as well as in festivals such as ”Sommet Musicaux de Gstaad”, Easter Festival in Kiev and Festival Concentus Moraviae in Czech Republic.
From 2009, the Beraia sisters live in different countries ( Natia lives in Tbilisi, Georgia and Tamar lives in Bern, Switzerland). In 2012, Tamar completed her studies with Ivan Klánský in Hochschule Luzern, Switzerland. Her intense concert career focuses on recitals and performances with the orchestra. Her two solo recordings ‘Portrait’ (EaSonus, 2014) and ‘Beethoven-Liszt’ (Avi-music, 2018) were praised by many critics. Natia leads an international music life as a soloist and a chamber musician. In 2020, she earned the PhD in Music at Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Despite of living in different countries, the Beraia sisters continue playing piano duo at festivals and concerts all over Europe.
